Over the Edge is an exhilarating fundraising event featuring up to daring participants, each striving to raise a minimum of $1,000. In return, these brave individuals get the unique opportunity to rappel 50 feet down the Cape Fear Valley Medical Arts Center in Downtown Fayetteville. This thrilling experience is designed to support United Way of Cumberland County's (UWCC) mission of raising funds to enhance the quality of life in Cumberland County by addressing critical community needs, including education, health, financial stability, and basic necessities.
This year, we are excited to partner with the Fayetteville Dogwood Festival, making Over the Edge a sanctioned event held annually in April. The 2025 Dogwood Festival, celebrating its 43rd year, promises extraordinary entertainment, family-friendly activities, delicious food, and beloved community traditions in Downtown Fayetteville. This weekend event attracts over 200,000 attendees each year, offering an incredible platform for visibility and community engagement.

Volunteers Needed:
We're looking for dedicated volunteers to join us at our Over the Edge event, held in partnership with the Dogwood Festival! Volunteers are essential to creating an unforgettable experience for participants and spectators alike.
Volunteer Shifts:
- Morning: 7:00 am - 12:30 pm
- Afternoon: 12:00 pm - 5:30 pm
Note: All volunteers must be available for training on Friday from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
Volunteer Roles:
- Staging Guides: Assist with guiding participants from Registration to Staging, then from Staging to Training/Roof.
- Landing Zone - Gear Runners: Help manage and transport participant gear at the landing zone.
- Roof Top Security: Monitor entrance security at the rooftop.
- Roof Top Radio: Coordinate communications on the rooftop.
- Landing Zone Announcer/EMCEE: Announce participants and keep the energy up for the crowd!
- Floaters: Provide general assistance where needed throughout the event.
- Ropes Volunteers: Support our professional ropes team as needed. Ropes Volunteers are required to be available all day on event day.
